I have just completed a huge piece of art for Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford, located in Palo Alto, California. The piece, entitled San Francisco Bay, is a view of the city and the Bay Bridge, as seen from Alcatraz Island. It is my largest work ever: A collage on two wood panels totaling 5 feet by 4 feet. I was thrilled that the hospital’s art committee awarded me this commission for the maternal and neonatal wing of the hospital, which has been completely renovated over the last two years. I traveled to San Francisco to tour the hospital and see the incredible art there, and also took a ferry to Alcatraz to take photos that inspired the sketch and final piece. Making the actual art has taken me about 4 months, over my busiest season, so I am happy to have it completed.
